Oversized showers may be gaining steam, but if there’s room in the plan, a freestanding bathtub can still take center stage.

The aim was a spa-like feel throughout the bathroom, so the redo included walnut, teak, glass tile, and soft lighting. The tub itself is a rounded triangle that nestles into a corner formed by teak benches. Specially-built teak housing accommodates the tub’s custom-built faucet. This 5,500-pound, solid granite tub was an eBay find that the homeowners fell in love with. A challenge? You bet. Floor boards were scribed two to three times to make sure they fit perfectly around the massive focal point. The lower third of the tub is below floor and wrapped in a radiant loop.
